Ritu is a Consultant Solicitor specialising in mental health law and human rights.
She has been a member of the Law Society's Mental Health Accreditation Scheme since 2005. As of August 2014 all lawyers representing clients before the First-tier Tribunal (Mental Health) must be members of this accreditation scheme.
Ritu has undertaken work in the USA in the field of Capital Defence, representing those on Death Row in their final appeals. More recently she has worked with the National Council for Civil Liberties providing advice and information in the field of Human Rights.
Her specialism combines representing clients who are detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended) in all matters relating to their detention, including but not limited to, appealing to the First-tier Tribunal, consent to treatment issues, the use of restraint and seclusion, applications to displace nearest relatives and overriding human right issues.
She also provides assistance regarding detention and liaises with clinical teams and other professionals involved in client care as well as attending Care Programme Approach meetings.
Ritu has a commitment to ensuring clients receive support and understanding in dealing with their mental health matters.
