Lara qualified as solicitor in 2005 and is a member of the Law Society’s Mental Health Accreditation Scheme.
In 2012, Lara was appointed by the Law Society as an Assessor for candidates applying to become members of the Law Society’s Mental Health Accreditation Scheme.
She has extensive experience advising and representing a cross section of civil and restricted clients detained under the Mental Health Act across all levels of security and clients receiving treatment under Community Treatment Orders.
Lara has a particular interest in representing clients with complex and challenging cases. Her specialist expertise is representing clients receiving treatment subject to Conditional Discharge seeking an Absolute Discharge.
Lara represents clients in applications and automatic references to the First-tier Tribunal. She has successfully appealed decisions of the First-tier Tribunal and conducted proceedings in the High Court.
In addition, she advises and assists in complaint matters, specifically in relation to unlawful detention and the administration of unlawful treatment, securing compensatory awards on behalf of clients.
In recognition of her work in this area of law, Lara was listed as a Rising Star in Super Lawyers 2013.
